The State Theatre decided to bring back Dark Side of Oz for the second time after two sold out shows last year. Come see what it’s all about on Friday, February 5 at 7pm, 9:30pm or midnight!

The Wizard of Oz has been a classic film, ever since it came out. Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon has been a must-have on any album collectors shelf since 1973. Now you can enjoy them together - on the State Theatre’s 31 foot big screen with state of the art surround sound.
When Dark Side of the Moon is played simultaneously with the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, numerous images from the film appear to synchronize with the music and lyrics. All band members (save Roger Waters) and engineer Alan Parsons have firmly stated that the phenomenon is a coincidence. This effect has often been called Dark Side of Oz or Dark Side of the Rainbow. The title of the music video experience comes from a combination of the album title and the film’s song “Over the Rainbow.” It is also a reference to the rainbow from the prism design on the cover of the Pink Floyd album.Arguably, playing any two media together will produce an impression of a striking amount of coincidence.
Although, the Dark Side of Oz has become famous throughout the years, the concept is still eerie. There have been several discussions whether or not Pink Floyd intentionally wrote their album to coincide with the movie. The band said they had no intention on this phenomenon and its origin is still unknown on who thought to combine the two works together.
There are several theories on how to synchronize these classics together. The theatre will present the starting point and repeat theory, where the album is played from the time the movie starts and repeated once it is finished. Join us in watching this great phenomenon for a three screen showing one day only.
