Do you know a child who is interested in the performing arts? Did you know that young people who participate in the arts for at least three hours, three days a week, for at least a year are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, three times more likely to win an award for school attendance and four times more likely to win an award for writing an essay or poem, according to Americans for the Arts?
In summer 2010, a diverse group of children ages 9 to 18 will learn to read scripts, design and create sets and practice effective movements in a thorough four-week drama academy. The academy offers an opportunity to enhance discipline, integrity, commitment and teamwork, while having an unforgettable time. At the end of four weeks, the 30 future stars will put on the performance, Theatre for a Small Planet by Jules Tasca.
If you are interested, in applying please fill out an application and return it to The State Theatre by March 3, 2010. After applications are accepted, applicants will be expected to prepare a one to three minute monologue or poem in order to properly place the student into a role for the play.
Why attend a Drama Academy?
Acting is life-enhancing! Even if you never enter the doorway of a theatre after the last day of Academy, you can gain vivid personal awareness, higher communication skills, and a strong sense of compassion for your fellow humans. There may be no better, more involving way to learn about yourself, and about the phenomenon of being alive than in drama. Actors will experience endless energy and relentless optimism revealing movement problems and possibilities, exploring physical experiences and sensations, initiating a process of self-awareness and discovery, and creating shared experiences to build relationships.
