The State Theatre is happy to welcome back The Silent Film Series. We will be presenting both feature length and short silent films. If names like Buster Keaton, Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, Gloria Swanson, Rudolph Valentino and many others stir something in your soul or even just makes you curious, you will not want to miss The State Theatre’s Silent Film Series. For a brief moment of time, silent films united the world, made us laugh and cry, and set in motion what became one of the greatest media influences in world history. Please join us in celebrating the pioneers that made these films an enduring legacy.

Every First Friday, The State Theatre is proud to present our First Friday Silent Film Series, a free presentation of 2 hours of silent short films.  Each silent short film series will be dedicated to a specific theme, performer, or director. Experience the beauty and wonder that is the silent film era.  It might be Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, or one of many others.  You may even find a new favorite director or film!

“My youth, my lack of experience, my sex all conspired against me.”  This quote was uttered by the first female director in movie history Alice Guy Blaché. Spanning the years from 1896 to 1920 Alice Guy Blaché went on to direct over 450 films and open her own movie studio. While others in the film industry were still trying to figure out how to make movies Alice was making history. The State Theatre welcomes you to enjoy a selection of her finest and timeless silent films.

This day’s short films will be:

Parson Sue (1911)
Broken Oath (1912)
A Comedy of Errors (1912)
The Detective’s Dog (1912)
Frozen on Love’s Trail (1912)
The Girl in the Armchair (1912)
His Double (1912)
Making an American Citizen (1912)
