The Bakkhai by Euripides
A Readers Theater Adaptation with Live Music
Open Music presents a Readers Theater adaptation of the Bakkhai by Euripides. This is one of the great plays of Greek theater, and was recently translated by the brilliant poet and classicist Anne Carson. The god Dinoysos comes back to Thebes, the city of his birth, to teach its arrogant political family (his cousins, of course) a lesson about hubris and denying the forces of nature. This wonderfully intense play reads well in 21st century America, and all the more so in the intimate format of Readers Theater in the Attic.
