Open Music is an experimental music ensemble that has been presenting unique, adventurous, and thought-provoking concerts in and around State College since 2014. For this show, a 7-piece ensemble will perform works by Joshua Abrams and Pauline Oliveros, two visionary American musicians. Both Abrams and Oliveros are composers whose work is associated with a grainy and meditative strand of minimalism, and both are known for assembling eclectic ensembles to weave their hypnotic patterns in melody, rhythm, and drone. Open Music will perform an evening of Abrams’ and Oliveros’ mesmerizing works with an eclectic instrumentarium of their own: harmonium, dulcimer, melodica, oud, bass, and drums.
