The Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker team set the standard for feature-film parody with this send-up of disaster movies (think AIRPORT and the Irwin Allen oeuvre). The film is loaded with nonstop sight gags, absurd one-liners, pop-culture references, goofy puns and bizarre non sequiturs. Its cast features many veteran actors hamming it up by playing it straight, including Lloyd Bridges, Julie Hagerty, Peter Graves, Robert Stack, Barbara Billingsley and, most famously, Leslie Nielsen, who created a whole new career for himself as the go-to guy for straight-faced tomfoolery.
