Marketing and Event Promotion Associate
Summary
The State Theatre is looking for a creative, organized marketer to help build audiences for a fast-moving calendar of live music, film, and special events.
This position will work closely with the Executive Director and marketing team to plan and execute event campaigns, create and publish social media content, support day-to-day design needs, and help move projects from announcement through show day.
We’re looking for someone who understands how to market experiences—not simply publish content. The right person will be comfortable working across multiple channels, creating strong promotional materials, thinking about audiences, and managing many campaigns at different stages at the same time.

For nearly 20 years, The State Theatre has been Centre County’s home for live music and film, presenting national touring artists, local performers, and a mix of mainstream, independent, classic, and repertory cinema.
Where You'll Contribute
Event Marketing & Promotion
- Help develop and execute marketing campaigns for concerts, films, and special events.
- Build promotional plans and timelines from event announcement through show day.
- Coordinate marketing assets, messaging, deadlines, and campaign needs across the theatre’s event calendar.
- Write and adapt promotional copy for social media, email, web, advertising, and other channels.
- Identify audiences and promotional opportunities for individual events.
- Support grassroots, community, campus, and regional promotional efforts.
- Coordinate promotional needs and materials with artists, agents, distributors, partners, and outside organizations.
- Help identify opportunities to increase awareness, engagement, and ticket sales.
Social Media & Digital Marketing
- Create, schedule, and publish social media content supporting concerts, films, and special events.
- Help maintain an active and consistent presence across the theatre’s social channels.
- Assist with organic and paid social campaigns.
- Help develop audience targeting and campaign strategies for Meta and other digital platforms.
- Monitor campaign performance and help adjust marketing efforts based on results.
- Adapt messaging and creative for different audiences, events, and platforms.
- Stay aware of emerging platforms, audience behavior, cultural trends, and promotional opportunities.
Design & Content
- Create graphics and promotional materials for social media, digital advertising, email, web, signage, and other day-to-day marketing needs.
- Adapt existing artwork and campaign assets into different sizes and formats.
- Use Canva and other design tools to create effective, visually consistent marketing materials.
- Assist with photography, basic video editing, and content creation as needed.
- Work closely with the Graphic Designer + Digital Marketing Associate on larger campaigns and more advanced creative projects.
- Help maintain consistency across The State Theatre’s visual identity.
Marketing Coordination
- Help maintain marketing calendars, priorities, deadlines, and campaign workflows.
- Coordinate with programming, box office, production, rentals, and development when marketing needs overlap.
- Maintain accurate and timely event information across digital channels.
- Support onsite promotional activity and special marketing projects.
- Help ensure campaigns move forward on time and nothing falls through the cracks.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience in marketing, event promotion, social media, live entertainment, music, film, arts, or a related field.
- Understands how marketing strategy, creative work, and audience behavior work together.
- Is a strong writer and communicator.
- Has hands-on experience creating and managing social media content.
- Has general graphic design skills and experience with Canva or similar tools.
- Can create clean, effective promotional graphics and adapt existing artwork for different uses.
- Can manage multiple campaigns, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Is highly organized, collaborative, curious, and comfortable taking initiative.
- Has an interest in live music, film, culture, and audience development.
- Has experience with Meta Ads Manager, Adobe Creative Suite, photography, or basic video editing (preferred).
What Success Looks Like
Success in this position means campaigns are organized, thoughtful, creative, and executed on time. Social channels remain active and engaging, promotional materials are produced efficiently, and events reach the audiences most likely to connect with them.
The strongest person in this role will be comfortable moving between campaign planning, social media, writing, and everyday creative work—and will understand that every event requires a slightly different approach.
