Forty years after the release of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, New York Times best-selling author, Warren Zanes, sat with Springsteen and discussed how Nebraska was made and why it was necessary for him to release such an imperfect, strange, and unexpected album.
Those conversations became the centerpiece of a book about that recording and Springsteen’s life at the time, entitled Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.
Based on his critically acclaimed new book, Zanes’s show is a moving, funny, insightful exploration of life falling apart, of art’s redemptive power, and of the lasting place of Bruce Springsteen in American life and culture.
Please join us on November 12th, 2023 at 8:00pm as we welcome Warren Zanes to The Attic at The State Theatre for a special words and music event. Combining storytelling and performance, Zanes will be accompanied by musical guests Natalie Race, Chris Rattie, and Brian Cleary.
Warren Zanes is the New York Times bestselling author of Petty: The Biography. As a member of the Del Fuegos, he has shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen, and continues to write and record music.
Zanes holds a PhD in visual and cultural studies from the University of Rochester and presently teaches at New York University. He is a Grammy-nominated producer of the PBS series Soundbreaking and was a consulting producer on the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom.
Zanes’s work has appeared in Rolling Stone and the Oxford American, and he has served as a vice president at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
His newest book is:
Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.
